Dictionary.com explains LEVERAGE as a "POSITIONAL ADVANTAGE". In the picture above, the recevier for the Chargers is aligned near the sidelines, the Corner for the Cardinals has "INSIDE LEVERAGE". In the secondary there are "TWO BRACKETTS" a "MOVING BRACKETT", the Safety and a "FIXED BRACKETT", the Sidelines. The Corner wants to utilize the nearest "BRACKETT" to assist him in covering the receiver.

As a basic rule, the Corner aligns OPPOSITE of the nearest "BRACKETT". Know where your help will come from!

The JAGUARS will wear WHITE CLEATS this season. Players can wear any color cleats in practice... on game day, the primary color of the cleats should be white.

HIGH BALL CARRY IS A KEY TO ELIMINATING TURN OVERS

Carrying the ball HIGH and TIGHT as you see in the photo is the best way to keep the ball for our team. The number one predictor of victory is turnover margin. This past year, Coach Carberry's defense led the FOOTHILL CONFERENCE with a +8 turnover margin.

WHAT SHOULD YOU WEAR TO CLASS?

On Monday and Friday we will be in a work out mode. Weight training, running, change of direction and general football skills. On Tuesday's and Wednesday's we will be primarily working in On Field Activities. On those days we will be in our SOUTHWESTERN FOOTBALL SHIRT AND SHORT. These can be purchased in our book store on campus for $20.00. There is a list of students permitted to purchase the shirt and short in the book store. If you are not on that list see Coach Carberry or Coach Nottoli on campus for a note.

FOOTBALL BEGINS JUNE 18TH

We are ready to begin the summer program next week in the afternoon. Excitment is the word for the day. If you have tried to enroll in class and been told it is closed... don't worry... we will be signing in all students on the first day of class.

ACADEMICS - Set your goals high. Know what classes transfer and get them on your schedule. Start early, if you are an incoming freshman, take a minimum of 3 units of transferable work your first summer.

ATTENDANCE - Often times the person that SHOWS UP is the one that succeeds. Be on time and on task in the class room, weight room and practice field.

ATTITUDE - You can only control two things in your life... the ATTITUDE you bring with you and how hard you work.
