COACH CARBERRY MEETS WITH TWO LEGENDS IN COLLEGIATE STRENGTH COACHING
The weight room is the key to success in any great football program. Pictured with Coach Carberry are two of the key figures in strength training at the college level. On the left is current Head Strength Coach for USC Chris Carlisle and in the middle is the founder of modern strength training Boyd Eppley. Coach Eppley, a former track athlete at the University of Nebraska in the 1960's developed the strength program that was the foundation of Nebraska's dominance for three decades of college football.
Coach centered Nebraska's training around Olympic lifts that focused on the TRIPLE EXTENSION of the Ankles / Knees and Hips. Coach Carlisle who worked with Eppley at Nebraska has taken that philosophy to a new level at USC as they go about the business of developing explosive athletes.
Coach Carberry visited the Nebraska football program in 1999 and has visited the USC program every year since 2001. The JAGUAR STRENGTH PROGRAM is patterned after the basic Nebraska/USC program. STRENGTH / EXPLOSION / CHANGE OF DIRECTION / SPEED are our focus.

SOPH RECEIVER JOSH SIPHO POST'S HIGH MARKS FOR SPRING MAX
JOSH SIPHO (UNIVERSITY CITY HS) Had a great workout day as we did our second spring max for 2008. JOSH ran a 4.36 hand timed 40 yard dash and followed that up with a 9'11 standing broad jump.
JOSH exploded in the second half of the 2007 season with two long touchdown catch and runs (80 and 70 yards) and a huge 40 yarder against the number one defense in the state Antelope Valley College with under a minute to go in the game.
JOSH has improved by leaps and bounds since he arrived on campus. His work ethic in the class room and weight room has been the big turn around for him.

ACADEMIC TUTORING MANDATORY FOR "AT RISK" JAGS
THURSDAY JANUARY 31st.
80 spring football players toured our campus this past Thursday. Fernando Poveda led the tour taking the players and staff members through the campus to make them aware of the facilities at their disposal. Along the way we met with EOPS director Robert Hill who shared the key elements to his program.
This past week Coach Carberry met with Elizabeth Kozel, Tutorial Center Coordinator. The two discussed mandatory tutorial sessions for all football players identified as “at risk” based on their fall semester grades. Players have been identified and will begin tutorial sessions next week.

JAGS CONTINUE THEIR EDUCATIONS AT THE FOUR YEAR LEVEL
OUR GOAL IS 100% PLACEMENT OF OUR SOPHOMORES!
The student athletes below are moving on to the next level in their education. All have received varying degrees on aid from a FULL ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP to need based financial aid. We are continuing to push to get the remaining players placed.
The important point to remember is that SWC players were ACADEMICALLY READY to accept the university offer to play football and attend their school. The success is in large part due to the players focus on taking transferable units. That has hit home through our counseling department, specifically ED COSIO who has seen numerous football players this past spring and fall semesters.
