JAG RECRUIT TREVOR KOLOCHESKI WINS THE MVP FOR THE SOUTH TEAM IN THE ALL STAR GAME.

Graduating senior receiver TREVOR KOLOCHESKI (WEST HILLS HS) played a key role in the South's 14-0 victory over the North in the 17th Alex Spanos All Star Game. He caught the key pass that set up both scores for the South. The first was a 70 yard catch and run off a fake wide receiver screen, KOLOCHESKI faked blocking the defensive back and continued up the sidelines. South QB RYAN LINDLEY (EL CAPITAN HS/SDSU) hit him in stride. KOLOCHESKi came up big in the fourth quarter with a twisting catch at the 1 yard line. He followed the catch with a 1 yard touchdown run on a wide receiver sweep play.

KOLOCHESKI is a key recruit the JAG'S are still chasing. He has played multiple positions over the past two seasons. His best productivity has come at receiver. As a junior he had 17 TD's and over 1,000 yards. He has narrowed his choices to SOUTHWESTERN and San Diego Mesa College.

SOUTH WINS 17th ALEX SPANOS ALL STAR FOOTBALL GAME. JAG'S HAVE NUMEROUS PARTICIPANTS.

The South team coached by Point Loma's Mike Hastings edged the North in a defensive struggle. SOUTHWESTERN football had 6 players that have committed to them on the South roster. All defensive players:

Safety BETO PADILLA (BONITA VISTA HS)
Corner TAELOR WORRELL (EL CAPITAN HS)
Safety DERRICK PERRAULT (HELIX HS)
Corner BRANDON TAYLOR (CHULA VISTA HS)
Tackle/End JERAD RUIZ (HELIX HS)
LB FRANK RODRIGUEZ (CASTLE PARK HS)

JERAD RUIZ (HELIX HS) had a great game agains the run as did FRANK RODRIGUEZ (CASTLE PARK HS). Corner TAELOR WORRELL (EL CAPITAN HS) dominated his receiver and took him completely out of the game with an "in your face" bump and run coverage. DERRICK PERRAULT (HELIX HS) delivered the two biggest hits of the game, one of which knocked the ball carrier 2 yards out of bounds.

A GREAT EFFORT BY ALL.

WEEK FOUR IS IN THE BOOKS. THREE WEEKS TO GO IN THE SUMMER PROGRAM

The summer program has gone well. We completed the fourth week of the summer and will hammer forward over the next three weeks. The defense has done well with great efforts from LB ALEX MORALES (HELIX HS), DL TORY ROBINSON (MT. MIGUEL HS), CORNER LORENZO FLOYD (DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA) and CORNER CHRIS SIDDENS (OTAY RANCH HS).

In the kicking game, K/P MARCUS FLORES (GROSSMONT HS) and ABEL PEREZ (CASTLE PARK HS) have been battling daily in class. Both have strong legs and drive the ball well. FLORES hit a big kick at the end of class from the 42 yard line with conditioning on the line. He split the uprights.

On offense, OL PHILIP YANDALL (SIONE HS, SAMOA) has had a great camp, big and physical he has great feet and is only a freshman. Freshman QB RYAN NELSON (LOYOLA HS) has really improved and throws well on the run. Receivers Freshman CURTIS MITCHELL (DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA) has shown great speed and gets up for the ball, Sophomore KEVIN PIKE (HILLTOP HS) has continued to improve as a route runner and solid hands.

We continue to work on competition, sportsmanship and effort.

FIRST ANNUAL SOUTH COUNTY PASSING TOURNAMENT IS WON BY EASTLAKE HIGH SCHOOL

Great job by everybody this weekend. Coach Justin Schaeffer got the tournament organized and kept it moving... The SOUTHWESTERN COACHING STAFF guys out on the fields were great led by the referee of the day Coach Jeff Person (kicking coach). They kept the games moving and placated the competitive juices of the high school coaches and players.

Coach Mike Davis (you can tell who he is because he has no arm hair) did a great job on the bar b q. Walter Shaw (Shawn Shaw's dad) was also a big help. Current SOUTHWESTERN players MARCEL HARDING, DAVID ORTEGA, RAMAR WATSON and JAMEL SMITH were a big help also timing the actual pass attempts.

EASTLAKE HS won the tournament over CORONADO HS in the Championship Bracket. SERRA defeated VALHALLA in the Consolation Bracket.

South Bay teams participating: Eastlake HS, Coronado HS, Mater Dei HS, Southwest HS, Olympian HS and San Ysidro HS

TWO PLAYERS STAND OUT IN FIRST THREE WEEKS... Nick Fehoko and Larry Daniel

Out of the many players on the squad as of the start of July, two players have worked their way into great shape and are competeing daily:

Freshman offensive tackle Nick Fehoko (CHULA VISTA HS) has made great improvements this summer. His knowledge of our offense has increased daily and his attention to detail has been great. At 6'3, 315 lbs, Fehoko has excellent quickness and is developing solid pass protection techniques.

Sophomore wide receiver Larry Daniel (OTAY RANCH HS) has made rapid improvement the past three weeks. His releases off press coverage have gotten quicker with him attention to his hands in executing his releases ahve been the key to his success. Overall his committment to a GAME DAY ATTITUDE has made the difference in his daily play. Great job Larry!!

GREAT PLAYERS AND GREAT TEAMS HUSTLE!

Every game is decided by 3 to 5 plays. If they rang a bell prior to a specific play and said this is one of those plays, EVERYONE would play hard. They don't do that!

Therefore, we must play as hard as we can every play so that when the key play occurrs, we are HUSTLING.
