ILB'S RULE THE DAY WITH THE TOP SQUATS AS THE SEMESTER ENDS

THREE ILB'S STOOD OUT ON FRIDAY'S FINAL MAX DAY FOR THE SPRING SEMESTER. JIMMY VIDANO (STEELE CANYON HS), CARLOS CARLEY (HILLTOP HS) and KELLEN CARTER (MISSION BAY / PATRICK HENRY HS).

Sophomore ILB JIMMY VIDANO (STEELE CANYON HS) hits the bottom on his Max attempt of 455 lbs. A great lift for JIMMY who's strength in the weight room has been the Squat and the Hang Clean.

CARLOS CARLEY (HILLTOP HS) starts ups on his 505 lbs. squat max. CARLEY has made great strides in the spring semester weight room. One of the strongest JAGUARS, CARLEY teams up with fellow LB KELLEN CARTER (MISSION BAY / PATRICK HENRY HS) both at our on campus facility and at their own gym where they put in the "extra effort" it takes to succeed.

KELLEN CARTER (MISSION BAY / PATRICK HENRY HS), possibly the "STRONGEST JAGUAR" pound for pound hits the top pound for pound lift of the final max day with a squat of 505 lbs. A fantastic lift for the 190 lbs Inside LB.

COLORADO STATE, UTEP AND IDAHO STATE ATTEND THE FINAL WEEK OF CLASSES AT SOUTHWESTERN

Class this week was hectic with numerous Division I Universities stopping by by to talk with the JAGUAR staff and observe our sophomores in action on the field.

Pictured here is Colorado State Offensive Coordinator DAN HAMMERSCHMIDT (a former HELIX HS star). Coach has long been a San Diego recruiter.

Wide Receiver coach AARON PRICE from UTEP (pictured at the left) was excited about the number of skill players as well as sophomore DE LJ Brown who drew coaches attention. LJ, a 6'6 260 lbs transfer from near by Grossmont College has drawn a lot of attention from Division I recruiters this spring. His combination of size, speed and agility have placed him in a prime position to gain intrest at the next level.

Defensive Line coach BRIAN STRANDLEY from IDAHO STATE spent quite a bit of time down with the "ONE ON ONE'S" pass rush / pass protection evaluating personnel for recruiting this fall. Two players that stood out to him were sophomore DT RYAN KING (EL CAJON VALLEY HS) and ALEX OUJI (BONITA VISTA HS). He was impressed by KING'S use of his hands and by OUJI'S quickness and upper body strength.

SAN DIEGO STATE HEAD COACH CHUCK LONG VISITS THE JAG'S WEIGHT ROOM

Head Coach Chuck Long of the Aztecs came by the JAGUARS weight room to visit and spend some time with our staff on Wednesday morning. It was a great opportunity for Coach Long to see the JAG'S in action as we were "MAX LIFTING" for our final exam.

Coach Long has done a great job of reaching out to the community here in San Diego and has leant his staff to all Community College and High Schools to help them improve.

THE "WAR WAGON" TAKES IT'S FIRST TRIP TO THE PRACTICE FIELD

At every football program in the country one of the day to day hassles is "GETTING THE GEAR" out for practice. With some of the heavy bags to deal with... it not only makes it tough to move the equipment from the shed to the field, but it also delays the start of practice.

That being the situation... LB coach Jess Barragan came up with the idea to use a "WAGON" to move the heavy equipment. The picture you see here is the culmanation of Jess's idea. After purchasing the base frame, Coach took it to MONTE VISTA H.S. (where Coach Barragan teaches) metal shop teacher Warren Marlay. Marlay who can fabricate just about anything, took the basics and along with the students in his class built the "WAR WAGON" (named after the John Wayne movie, THE WAR WAGON).

We used it at our last class on Thursday and it was a big hit and worked great!

A FANTASTIC IDEA BY COACH BARRAGAN SOLVES A PROBLEM.

COMMENTS FROM SOPHOMORE TEVITA FEHOKO ON THE SPRING SEMESTER

Friday, 5 - 18 - 07 -
It has been a pretty interesting spring. There has been drastic improvements
in the weightroom since February. The MWF weightlifting classes enhanced not
only strength, but it enhanced better preformances on the field as well.
Those who had no clue about lifting were properly introduced to what Coach
Carberry had to offer this up coming season. He was at the weightroom fired
up every MWF starting at 8.00 AM faithfully trying to better his players and
give them a taste on what was to come this upcoming summer. We finished our
last spring practice on a good note. It was a very competitive inter - squad
type of scrimmage which resulted in all the players getting after it and
having a great time flying around and making plays on both sides of the ball
offensive and defensively.

SOPHOMORE TEVITA FEHOKO FINISHES WITH A 305 lbs CLEAN

TEVITA preps for the lift with LARRY DANIELS (OTAY RANCH HS) spotting

TEVITA shows the EXPLOSIVE POWER of the Hang Clean... The "TRIPLE EXTENSION... ANKLES | KNEES | HIPS"

FEHOKO finishes the lift!

TEVITA FEHOKO (CHULA VISTA HS) finished an outstanding spring with a solid Hang Clean of 305 lbs on Wednesday. Fehoko has perfected the Hang Technique by focusing on a weight he could control and getting the "tempo" of the lift down to perfection. FEHOKO, who "walked on" at UNLV right out of high school returned to the South Bay in the fall of '06 and sat out the season. A solid student, TEVITA will be a December graduate with a focus on journalism.

COMPETITION TUESDAY

We had a very spirited class today on what we call "COMPETITION TUESDAY". On "COMPETITION TUESDAY'S we have a minimum of three "competitive periods". We want to put our players in the most competitive enviornment we can so we will be ready to compete on game day in the fall.

The defensive backs stepped up to the plate today in One on One drills. CHRIS SIDDENS (OTAY LAKES HS) has had a great last three workouts. Turning in excellent cover skills combined with a good drive to the ball. RAMAR WATSON (TEXAS) moved from wide receiver to defensive back... he had a great first day out intercepting one pass and returning it for a TD during the "Blitz Period".

Freshman QB JORDAN ANTHONY (EASTLAKE HS) threw three TD's during our final period of the day... "25 and In". Sophomre slot receiver MIKE PAGE (PALOMA VALLEY / MT. SAN JACINTO COLLEGE) caught the ball well today and continues to improve on his routes.
